Is there a Subfrost airdrop?
A token reward is promised, but the season that earns it hasn't started. Subfrost's Rewards page says: "Season 1 is incentivized by SUBFROST: FUEL will be shared with farmers." It adds that "Points convert to FUEL, which vests over 180 days". FUEL is the project's planned governance token, and Subfrost's own article of 2 October 2026 says it "has not launched yet".
Season 1 has no dates. The same page says: "The cBTCUSD vault is open, but Season 1 farming has not started yet. The start block will be announced before it arrives." Subfrost hasn't published a supply, a launch date or the share of FUEL that Season 1 will receive.
Warning The numbers on the Rewards page aren't real yet. The page explains that the farm ledger isn't live, so its totals and leaderboard "show how Season 1 works rather than what you have earned". And any FUEL offered for sale today isn't the official token, because none exists.
What Subfrost is
Subfrost lets you use bitcoin in DeFi without leaving the Bitcoin chain. It issues frBTC, which is BTC wrapped one to one, and builds on Alkanes, a smart contract layer on Bitcoin. On top of that it runs swaps, liquidity pools, vaults and a dollar token called frUSD. It has been on mainnet since late 2025, and everything on it uses real bitcoin.
How Subfrost Season 1 rewards will work
Season 1 is built around a vault called PERMAFROST. You provide liquidity to the BTC and USD pool, deposit that position into the vault to receive cBTCUSD, and then place the cBTCUSD in a farm that earns points every block. You can also bond FIRE, another Subfrost token, to raise your multiplier.
Two parts of that are costly by design. Leaving the vault costs 5% of your position, which the page describes this way: "Those who exit the vault leave behind 5% for those who stay." And bonded FIRE is never returned to you.
Subfrost airdrop step-by-step guide
- Set up a Bitcoin wallet. Subfrost has its own, and it also connects to OKX, Unisat and Xverse.
Warning Move any Ordinals, Runes or BRC-20 tokens to a different wallet first. Subfrost's safety page says it "does not index ord at this time", so those assets can be burned by accident if they sit in the wallet you use with it.
- Open app.subfrost.io/rewards and read the three Season 1 steps on the page.
- Get the BTC and USD liquidity position. The app can create it from BTC in one transaction.
- Deposit it in the PERMAFROST vault to mint cBTCUSD. The vault is open now.
- Wait for farming. Opening a farm and bonding FIRE aren't available yet, and the start block hasn't been announced.

Subfrost airdrop costs and fees
This is not free and there is no testnet. Wrapping BTC into frBTC costs 0.1%, and so does unwrapping. Pool swaps carry their own fees, and each step is a Bitcoin transaction with a miner fee. On top of those sits the 5% you leave behind when you exit the vault.
Warning If you deposit now and change your mind before the season starts, you still pay the 5% exit charge. Waiting for a start date costs nothing.
Subfrost airdrop risks and eligibility
- The full system is unaudited. The docs say that "although many of its components have been audited, the end-to-end SUBFROST protocol has not."
- The bitcoin behind frBTC is held by nine signers who, according to the docs, "are not yet publicly identified".
- On 2 July 2026 a bug in the Alkanes indexer was used to drain a pool. Subfrost published a post-mortem and says the bitcoin behind it was secured.
- No Season 1 rules, country list or anti-Sybil terms are published. The wallet terms set a minimum age of 13.
Who is behind Subfrost?
The homepage names the company as Subzero Research Inc. and its founders as Gabe Lee, the chief executive, and Flex, the chief technology officer. Bitcoin Magazine also names Lee as a co-founder. The homepage lists Maelstrom, Magnus Capital, Li Hou Capital and Arthur Hayes among its investors, without amounts.
