The Starknet airdrop: the story of STRK Provisions

In February 2024 the Starknet Foundation offered 726 million STRK to nearly 1.3 million addresses in the first round of its Provisions Program. The claim closed on 20 June 2024, the program has since been discontinued, and no new round has been announced.

Can you still claim the Starknet airdrop?

No. The first and only Provisions round could be claimed "starting 12pm (UTC) on February 20th, 2024, and no later than June 20th, 2024". The Starknet Foundation's announcement now opens with a short note: "Update: The Starknet Provisions Program has been discontinued." The claim site, provisions.starknet.io, no longer exists.

Unclaimed STRK wasn't burned. The rules said it "will be reclaimed to the pool and distributed in future rounds and/or programs", and in July 2024 StarkWare wrote: "Roughly 400M STRK remains earmarked for future rounds." No second round has been announced since, and we found no word on what became of those tokens.

Warning The Foundation says it is the only body distributing STRK: "Anyone claiming to be leading parallel distributions is running a scam." Any Starknet airdrop checker or claim page you find today is fake.

What was the Starknet airdrop?

Starknet is a layer 2 network on Ethereum built by StarkWare, and STRK is its token, with a supply of 10 billion. On 14 February 2024 the Starknet Foundation announced the first round of its Provisions Program: 726 million STRK, about 7% of the supply, for 1,297,738 eligible addresses.

That came out of 900 million STRK set aside for Provisions, which is part of a larger community allocation of 1.8 billion. Depending on the group, each address got between 111.1 and 200,000 STRK.

Who got the Starknet airdrop?

The round mixed Starknet users with a wide circle of Ethereum and open-source people:

  • Starknet users: more than five transactions by 15 November 2023, active for three months or more, at least $100 in volume, and at least 0.005 ETH in the account on 15 November. Users were meant to get more than half of the round, and in the end they took "over 87% of the total Provisions claimed".
  • Early community members: people approved in advance under the Early Community Member Program.
  • Developers: at least three GitHub commits to a Starknet or Ethereum repository, or to one of "the top 5,000 GitHub projects (ranked by GitHub stars)". Ethereum Protocol Guild members and authors of Ethereum Improvement Proposals qualified too.
  • StarkEx users: at least eight transactions before 1 June 2022 on apps built with StarkEx, StarkWare's earlier system.
  • Ethereum stakers: anyone who staked ETH before the Merge on 15 September 2022, counted per validator up to 12 per address.

US persons were excluded, and the Starknet-user list was screened for sybil wallets with Trusta Labs.

Why the Starknet airdrop caused a backlash

  • The 0.005 ETH rule: StarkWare later wrote that most of the anger was about the Starknet-user criteria, above all "requiring that at least 0.005 ETH be held in an account on a certain date".
  • The insider unlock: about 1.3 billion STRK for investors and early contributors was due to unlock on 15 April 2024, two months after launch. Decrypt reported that critics called it "predatory" and "borderline criminal". On 22 February StarkWare cut the April unlock to 64 million STRK, followed by 64 million a month.
  • Developer deals: StarkWare confirmed that core developers "with pre-existing agreements with the Starknet Foundation were allocated tokens for claiming on the same day that Provisions claiming started".

StarkWare's own look back, in July 2024, conceded: "The allocation method wasn't perfect".

How much was the Starknet airdrop worth?

STRK peaked at $4.41 on its first day of trading, 20 February 2024, and fell fast. Decrypt had it at $2.56 that day, already 49% below its opening, with a market value of about $2 billion. The next day it touched $1.70.

By April 2026 STRK was worth about $0.03, and on 9 October 2026 Decrypt put it at about $0.073. At that price the smallest allocation, 111.1 STRK, was worth about $8.

Is there a new Starknet airdrop in 2026?

No new Provisions round has been announced. The STRK handed out now comes through incentive programs, not an airdrop to past users:

  • BTCFi Season: launched on 30 September 2025 with "a budget of 100M STRK". The Foundation pays the STRK to DeFi protocols, and "Each protocol will be responsible for its own distribution of STRK to its users."
  • DeFi Spring: a 90 million STRK program for liquidity providers, which the Foundation described in December 2025 as "close to ending".
  • Staking: people who stake STRK or BTC on Starknet earn STRK rewards.
