The Uniswap airdrop: the story of 400 UNI

In September 2020 Uniswap gave 400 UNI to every address that had ever used it. No deadline was ever set, and on 29 October 2026 the claim contract still held about 488,000 UNI.

Can you still claim the Uniswap airdrop?

Yes, if your wallet qualified in 2020 and never claimed. Uniswap Labs set no deadline. Its announcement on 16 September 2020 said eligible users "can claim their UNI now", linked to app.uniswap.org and gave no end date. The claim contract has no expiry either, and no function to take unclaimed UNI back. When someone proposed sending unclaimed UNI to the treasury that month, a Uniswap team member replied on the governance forum that the amount "is fixed and irrevocable".

On 29 October 2026 the contract still held about 488,000 UNI. There is no separate claim page any more: the old app.uniswap.org/#/uni address ends on a "Page not found!" screen. Uniswap's public web-app code still includes the claim pop-up, which appears when an eligible wallet that hasn't claimed connects at app.uniswap.org. We didn't connect a wallet to test it.

Warning Type app.uniswap.org yourself. A "Uniswap airdrop" claim link in an ad, a direct message or the name of a token sent to your wallet is a scam.

What was the Uniswap airdrop?

Uniswap Labs launched UNI, the governance token of the Uniswap exchange, with a post that began: "UNI, the Uniswap Protocol token, is live!" It minted 1 billion UNI and gave 15%, or 150 million, to past users at once, based on a snapshot taken at midnight UTC on 1 September 2020.

Uniswap said it was "particularly well positioned for community-led growth, development, and self-sustainability", and that its early users would "naturally serve as responsible stewards of Uniswap."

Who got the Uniswap airdrop?

  • Users: 251,534 addresses got 400 UNI each, 100.6 million UNI in all. Any address that had ever called the Uniswap v1 or v2 contracts qualified, including about 12,000 that, in Uniswap's words, "have only ever submitted failed transactions".
  • Liquidity providers: 49,192 addresses shared 49,166,400 UNI, in proportion to the liquidity they had provided over time.
  • SOCKS holders: 220 addresses that held or redeemed Uniswap's SOCKS token, which could be swapped for a real pair of socks, got 1,000 UNI each.

Liquidity mining followed two days later. From 18 September to 17 November 2020, four Uniswap v2 pools, ETH paired with USDT, USDC, DAI and WBTC, shared 5 million UNI each.

How much was the Uniswap airdrop worth?

On 17 September 2020 Decrypt reported that "the 400 UNI airdrop was currently worth over $1,500", after UNI rose to about $4 on news of a Coinbase Pro listing. UNI reached an all-time high of $44.69 on 3 May 2021, according to Decrypt, which later put 400 UNI at "nearly $18,000" at the peak.

It has fallen a long way since. On 29 October 2026 Etherscan showed UNI at $7.01, so 400 UNI was worth about $2,800.

Is there a new Uniswap airdrop in 2026?

No. We found no new airdrop in Uniswap's blog, its governance forum or its on-chain votes. The big change for UNI holders is "UNIfication", passed by 125,342,017 votes to 742 and carried out on 29 December 2025. It turns on Uniswap's protocol fees and uses them to burn UNI rather than pay holders. Explaining the choice on the forum, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams wrote: "Burning is the most straightforward way to handle fees without introducing staking mechanics or other structures that add tax complexity."

The fees have since spread chain by chain, most recently to Arc in October 2026. Since March 2025 Uniswap has also paid UNI incentives to liquidity providers on Unichain and Uniswap v4, but those reward liquidity today, not past use.
